Lei Making

Lei making (and giving) is a special tradition in Hawaii.  Fresh flowers aren't always available, so we've thought of a great alternative using our labels.  It's super easy and great for any special occasion or holiday:  graduations, birthdays, retirements, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Teacher's Appreciation Day, etc.  For a fun twist, use different candies or small items (toys, etc.).  Have fun and enjoy!

Supply List
55 inches of poly tubing (sold at most craft stores)
9 pieces curling ribbon (cut into 12 inch long pieces)
9 M&M fun size packets (or any candy/item you like that is approx the same size)
9 labels  - we prefer Dana Labels ;o)
4 pieces of tape (about 1.5 inches long)

Supplies:  poly tubing, curling ribbon, M&M packets and labels (oops, forgot the tape)

Place tape at the end of the poly tubing so the M&M packets do not fall out when inserting.

Be sure to leave extra room at the beginning of the lei.  This is very important because you will be tying the end sections together with curling ribbon.  Place label on the poly tubing, then insert the candy. This allows the label to lay better.

Be sure to tie the curling ribbon after you insert each candy.

After you have used all the M&M packets, tape the end to close the poly tubing (the same way you did in the beginning).  Then, overlap the ends of the poly tubing to form a circle.  Tape each side to secure.  Tie two pieces of curling ribbon over the overlapped section (in the center) to secure.

Curl each section of the ribbon with scissors.

You're done!

We made a lei for Father's Day too!

Make Cute Gift Bags from Your Old Calendars

It always seems like such a waste to throw away the beautiful, fun or cute photos from the yearly calendars.  That's why I thought this was such a great idea to share.  All you need is an old calendar with great photos and some glue.  I had a ruler handy but it is such an easy project that you can just wing it if you want to...Happy Crafting!

Mini Gift Bag Made from an Old Calendar Page

Flip the photo page of the calendar over so the month is upside down
and is at the "bottom" of the page.  Make a 1/2 inch fold at the "top"
of the page and glue down. This makes the top of your bag.

Find the center of the paper.  Measure 2 inches to the right of the center
and fold down.  Repeat on the left side. This becomes the front of your bag.

Measure 1 inch to the right of the right fold you just made.
and fold down.  Repeat on the left side.  This makes the sides of the bag.

Glue right and left sides together.  This makes the back of the bag.
Please note:  The sides may overlap.  If you would like, you can
cut the paper so the back seam is in the middle of the bag.

Make 1 inch slits in the corners of the bottom of the bag.

Fold the sides in first.  Then, fold the front and back flaps.

Glue the bottom of the bag together.
