13th Annual Floating Lantern Ceremony - Memorial Day 2011

The Floating Lantern Ceremony, also known as the Toro Nagashi ceremony, was founded by the Shinnyo-en Buddhist order in Japan.  During the ceremony, people release small lanterns inscribed with messages to loved ones who have passed away and prayers for a peaceful future.  Though the ceremony is traditionally held during the latter part of summer in Japan, Hawaii's Shinnyo-en order holds the ceremony on Memorial Day to help honor those that have lost their lives in war.  This year's ceremony will include muscial performances as well as a moment of reflection for Japan’s tsunami and earthquake victims. Spot's Inn is Back!

I could barely contain my excitement when I saw the Spot's Inn sign in Puck's Alley.  Originally located in Kalihi, Spot's was one of our favorite plate lunch spots, so we were really sad when they closed a few years ago.  Imagine my excitement to find out that they had reopened in a new location.  Be sure to check it out!  Their food is super ono and their prices are great.  Definitely a favorite!  Happy Eating!
