Marukai's Mochi Micro-Baker

We love mochi, especially Chi Chi Dango!  Marukai's Mochi Micro-Baker makes it fast and easy to make delicious Chi Chi Dango!  It's one of our favorite gadgets!

Strawberry Chi Chi Dango made with Marukai's Mochi Micro-Baker

Chi Chi Dango Recipe (for use with Micro-Baker)

1-1/2 cups mochiko (sweet rice flour)
1 cup sugar
1-1/2 cups water
2 Tablespoons Nesquik (optional, for strawberry flavor)
katakuriko (potato starch)

Mix together mochiko, sugar, and water in large bowl.  Add strawberry nesquik powder, if desired.  Pour the mixture into greased micro-baker.  Bake in microwave oven for 5 minutes on high (100% power), then 2 minutes on medium (50% power).  After cooled, cut with plastic knife* and roll in katakuriko.

*Please note:  Using the plastic knife is very important.  It makes it really easy to cut the mochi.

Snickerdoodle Bars

We love fast and easy recipes, especially during the holidays.  This Snickerdoodle Bar recipe is not only fast and easy, its delicious too.  Enjoy!

Snickerdoodle Bars

Grease a 13" x 9" pan and set aside.  Prepare sugar cookie mix as directed on package and set aside.  In a small bowl, combine 1 cup of sugar with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon (you can use more cinnamon if you like) until evenly mixed.  Drop dough by rounded teaspoons (one at a time) into the cinnamon-sugar mix and coated evenly.  Place coated cookie rounds into the pan.  Press all the cookie rounds flat until they cover the bottom of the pan.  Bake for 20 to 22 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown.

Mini Ice Cream Scooper - Great Gadget!

As I've written before, I am not a big fan of kitchen gadgets.  So, when a friend told me about using a mini ice cream scooper to make perfect (looking) cookies, I was a little skeptical.  Since she is an avid baker and her baked goods always come out looking perfect, I decided to give it a try.  The mini scooper is a cute itty bitty thing, so I expected the cookies to be tiny too.  To my delight, the cookies came out the perfect size and they looked great.  It made measuring the cookie batter super easy.  The mini scooper I use is 1-1/4 inches in diameter.  If you like slightly bigger cookies, then you'll probably prefer the scooper that is 1-1/2 inches in diameter.  Happy Baking!

Great Deals at PlayHawaii

Looking for a great deal?  Check out PLAYHawaii.  We have seen some great deals and tried some new companies after seeing them on PlayHawaii.  The website helps customers get great deals on a variety of different restaurants, products and services in Hawaii.

Here's how it works...

Visit PLAYHawaii.com to see the latest deal and discover new places or sign up for their deal email. Each deal needs a minimum number of people to get the deal.  It's free to join and share with others. If they get the minimum, everyone gets the deal. Otherwise, your card's not charged. They email you an e-voucher when the deal closes.

Is PLAY legit?  According to their website...
They work directly with the merchant partners to negotiate exclusive deals on your behalf to make sure that their vouchers are honored by the merchant. If you have any questions, you can email them at help@playhawaii.com.
